Sidbi Seeks Cluster Projects

(September 29, 2005) SIDBI is to use a centralized platform to disseminate the information and help SME’s get credit. A good start to the Cluster Development Programme in Orissa

The Cluster Development Programme in Orissa that is being implemented by UNIDO and promoted by Govt. of Orissa and DFID started its activities at the beginning of April. Looking at the results for the first six months, the future appears to be full of potential. A sensitisation programme on cluster approach has been conducted for the staff of Textiles and Handlooms and Industries Directorates. The Directorate of Handlooms has decided to reframe its entire arrangement towards cluster development with cluster approach becoming the main focus of activities and a revitalization instrument for the handloom sector. Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Foundation for MSME Clusters

The growing interest for cluster development from public and private agencies both in India and outside the country has prompted the creation of the “Foundation for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Clusters”. This institution aims to continue the work in the field of cluster development and to enable mutual learning, disseminate best practices, undertake research and training initiatives with a view to strengthening a range of cluster initiatives being taken up worldwide. UNIDO to start cluster development project in Ethiopia

A new project will be launched in Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on 29th September 2005. The main spotlight shall be on entrepreneurship development as well as assistance to existing clusters, either directly or through SME support institutions. Considering the experience of India in cluster development, this new initiative is taking and shall continually take facilitation from the Focal Point office of UNIDO in New Delhi. More....

UNIDO and IFC explore cooperation for cluster initiative in Bangladesh

The recent dialogue between the UNIDO Focal Point and representatives from the ‘Small Enterprise Development Facility’ (SEDF) by International Finance Corporation in Bangladesh enhanced the interest of IFC in the cluster development methodology practiced in India. Bangladesh to seek Japanese help for SME

Estimates suggest that there are around 60 lakh small and medium enterprises in Bangladesh that account for around 25 to 30 per cent of total GDP and 80 per cent of industrial jobs.
