Kerala's Technopark invites investment NATIONAL National Convention on Cluster Development December 1-2, 2005 The Foundation for MSME Clusters is planning to organise a National Convention on Cluster Development in Delhi. The convention will focus on the progress made in the area of cluster development in India over the last 5 years, and also provide the opportunity to launch the pristine ground-breaking foundation.More.... (September 29, 2005) SIDBI is to use a centralized platform to disseminate the information and help SME’s get credit. It has been evaluating the feasibility of such a scheme and would finalize it shortly. SIDBI is also keen to provide financial support for building infrastructure for different clusters. More.... EDI plans to strengthen Handloom Cluster (September 27, 2005) Gandhinagar -based Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) is taking up a pilot project to harness skills of five handloom clusters in Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Each cluster has been provided Rs 2 crore for four years. More.... A good start to the Cluster Development Programme in Orissa The Cluster Development Programme in Orissa that is being implemented by UNIDO and promoted by Govt. of Orissa and DFID started its activities at the beginning of April. Looking at the results for the first six months, the future appears to be full of potential. A sensitisation programme on cluster approach has been conducted for the staff of Textiles and Handlooms and Industries Directorates. The Directorate of Handlooms has decided to reframe its entire arrangement towards cluster development with cluster approach becoming the main focus of activities and a revitalization instrument for the handloom sector. More.... Andhra Pradesh: The State of Clusters (September 3, 2005): Andhra Pradesh government plans to implement 16 Cluster development projects in the state. The Centre has identified two proposals — a Farm Cluster in Hyderabad and an Auto Components Cluster in Vijayawada — to be taken. More.... Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Foundation for MSME Clusters The growing interest for cluster development from public and private agencies both in India and outside the country has prompted the creation of the “Foundation for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Clusters”. This institution aims to continue the work in the field of cluster development and to enable mutual learning, disseminate best practices, undertake research and training initiatives with a view to strengthening a range of cluster initiatives being taken up worldwide. The foundation had its first meeting in which the road map for the Foundation over the next couple of years was approved. More.... INTERNATONAL Kerala's Technopark invites investment from UAE (Dubai, Sep 28, 2005): Kerala's Technopark seeks 500-million Dirham investment for developing a 100-acre facility in the third phase of its expansion. Technopark is to offer 100,000 new jobs in the next five years, generating 20,000 jobs annually is not an issue now due to its approach. More.... UNIDO to start cluster development project in Ethiopia A new project will be launched in Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on 29th September 2005. The main spotlight shall be on entrepreneurship development as well as assistance to existing clusters, either directly or through SME support institutions. Considering the experience of India in cluster development, this new initiative is taking and shall continually take facilitation from the Focal Point office of UNIDO in New Delhi. More.... UNIDO and IFC explore cooperation for cluster initiative in Bangladesh The recent dialogue between the UNIDO Focal Point and representatives from the ‘Small Enterprise Development Facility’ (SEDF) by International Finance Corporation in Bangladesh enhanced the interest of IFC in the cluster development methodology practiced in India. Two Indian experts would be visiting the engineering cluster in Dhaka for this purpose. More.... Japanese to aid Thai enterprise clusters Thailand’s Industry Ministry and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is to join forces in developing three clusters of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with the aim at strengthening their competitiveness. Bangladesh to seek Japanese help for SME Estimates suggest that there are around 60 lakh small and medium enterprises in Bangladesh that account for around 25 to 30 per cent of total GDP and 80 per cent of industrial jobs. Bangladesh Government has declared SME as a thrust sector and emphasized on its development with domestic resources and external supports. More....
