UP Industrial clusters to remain in business 

Lucknow: The licensing system has gone but ‘Inspector Raj’ remained which created hurdles in competitiveness and growth of enterprise. It was discussed that industrial clusters will remain competitive as large amount of business takes place there. the brassware industry of Moradabad, saree polishing industry of Varanasi, glass industry of Firozabad and cracker industry in Shivakasi fall in this category and said that these clusters infused competitiveness.

New Scheme for Textile Clusters 

A new scheme has been formed to better address the infrastructure needs of the textile industry like, the power needs of the units, captive power plants. It is expected to be especially beneficial for cluster development. Facilities like compound walls, communication lines, warehousing facilities, raw material depots, canteens, workers' hostels, etc are covered under Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks.

Gas MoU to Boost Industrial Clusters in Punjab

A MoU has been signed between the Punjab Govt. and GAIL for laying of gas pipeline from Dadri to Nangal. The signing of MoU would go a long way in meeting the demands of the Industrial, Agricultural Transport, and domestic sectors. The MoU signed would be valid for a period of three years which also provides for identification of Industrial clusters as specific projects for distribution of gas.

Fiji Premier to visit Kerala Cluster

Kochi : Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase arrived in Kerala for a two-day visit. He is slated to visit the Coir Board, Coconut Development Board and Spices Board offices here and hold brief interactions with the officials. Mr Qarase would proceed to Alappuzha later in the day to visit the Coir-cluster project at Kalavoor.

Cluster Development Programme in India: SMEs take up the challenge 

The cluster approach to development of textile production centers in the country is proving successful, with the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) becoming aware of the need for adopting various quality and social standards, improving working conditions and production practices, and thus reducing costs and increasing output and value. Around 18 clusters have been identified by the Textiles Committee where it is implementing the CDP.

Four newer ASEAN members, Japan to forge industrial cooperation 

Four newer members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV), and Japan would step up their industrial cooperation and explore the possibility of establishing distribution networks linking industrial clusters and promoting investment.

China Auto-Clusters Need More Port Facilities 

China is expected to double the handling capacity at its ports to 3.5 billion tonnes by 2010 as it continues to expand at breakneck speed. This capacity will be added at three port clusters - the Bohai Rim in the north with Qingdao, Dalian and Tianjin; the Yangtze River Delta port cities of Shanghai and Ningbo; and the Pearl River Delta in the south with Shenzhen and Hong Kong. This matches to a certain extent the auto industry's clusters.

Unido Allocates $240,000 for Nigerian Leather Industry 

UNITED Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has earmarked $240,000 (about N31.6 million), towards the development of leather industry cluster in Aba and the Zaria Institute which are among a series of projects currently being funded by UNIDO in the Nigeria.

Vietnam Provincial Growth Through Cluster Development 

The Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee has urged northern Ha Tay province to speed up socio-economic development in 2005through well defined proper economic structure, detailed plans of industrial sectors, clusters and parks, and speeding up infrastructure construction.

Nigerian Cluster Entrepreneurs seek access to state fund 

Enugu Chamber of Commerce is seeking easier access to the state’s fund for small and medium scale enterprises. At present more than N31 billion funds is not being utilized by entrepreneurs. This fund is stuck in the vaults of banks. Small and medium scale enterprises in the state had been grouped into clusters to enable them discover their growth potentials.

Women Entrepreneurs lead way for Cluster Development 

A colourful display of products from the women entrepreneurs of Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Bhutan, Nepal and many other Asian countries took place from 10th to 15th of October. The venture aimed to identify and promote Women Entrepreneurs. It will go a long way in formulating a strategy for potential cluster development between the participants of similar products for production and perhaps joint export marketing.
