National News Industrial Clusters to be set up along with I.T. Park in Bhopal Ministry of Commerce and Industries issued instructions for speedy completion of Crystal I.T. Park, Indore at the cost of Rs. 27 crores. The engineering Cluster will be set up in Govindpura industrial area at Bhopal, Regiment Garment Cluster at Jabalpur and Packaging and Food Cluster sanctioned for Chhindwara. Govt proposes schemes to develop textile clusters The Government of India shall implement various schemes for the development of the textile clusters that shall mainly concentrate on Handlooms, Handicrafts, Power looms, Silk and Wool sectors as stated by The Ministry of Textiles in its written reply in the Lok Sabha on May 16.more G.I. for Orissa ’s Ikkat Clusters Orissa Ikkat joins the list of indigenous products to be recognized by the Geographical Indications Registry (GIR). The registry maintained by the controller-general of patents identifies goods having “special characteristics and originating from a definite geographical territory”. more Speedy implementation of proposed budget initiatives in 230 Handloom Clusters The P.M. has asked the Union Textiles Ministry to speedily implement initiatives announced in the Union Budget. Also the focus shall be laid on development of 230 major handloom clusters across the country. Government is committed to improving the economic status of weavers and to modernize handloom sector.more Reduced rate of interest on credit for handloom clusters The textile industry has been urged to re-focus their policies to facilitate improving its competitiveness internationally and domestically so that the threats are converted into opportunities. Therefore the government is mulling over reducing the rate of interest on credit to these artisans.more Industrial Clusters in Punjab, Haryana backed by research The Ministry of Science and Technology has formulated a plan to set up two scientific industry clusters. Help shall be provided setting up research institute-supported food technology parks in Haryana and in a agro-based cluster in Punjab.more SIDBI identifies 140 SME clusters for financing SIDBI has planned 52% (upto Rs 750 crore ) growth in its retail credit for SME’s and micro finance. It has identified 140 cluster SME’s for financing in tie-ups with banks or State Finance Corporations in the current year. Along with this changes have been made in the business model of SIDBI from being just a refinance body to providing direct financing to SME clients in the last two-and-a-half years.more SIDBI to focus on MSME cluster development SIDBI is to focus on SME cluster-based initiatives such as setting up common facility centres, extend marketing support, looking after infrastructure related requirements, CETPs. SIDBI, as a strategy would continue its thrust on direct and retail loan assistance. It has also planned to increase fee based services by providing forex and treasury services in SME clusters, project advisory services, loan syndications, appraisal services, etc.more Cisco Capital to extend financing options to SME Clusters CISCO will soon make provisions to financing networking projects of SME customers. Its finance wing, Cisco Capital, will offer this project funding facility to prospective SME customers who would want to upgrade their existing IT infrastructure. Cisco is targeting financial services, manufacturing, retail, education and hospitality among other small business clusters with this program. The challenges that SMBs face today are in terms of keeping pace with the transitioning market forces of which IT is an inherent part. Often they desire to upgrade their existing infrastructure but fail to do so on due to lack of operational knowledge of products and financial crunch. They can be a great help to poor people with good math skills, and some predisposition for entrepreneurship. Such programs are especially helpful for the moderately poor, and for enterprises located near roads and crossroads. Successful micro entrepreneurs also need to be able to choose good, money making investments, and be able to pursue them without undercutting from other micro entrepreneurs or cheap imports. Finally, if the enterprises are going to be encouraged to cluster they must not be of a kind that is likely to produce large negative externalities.more
